What spending over $100K on social media advertising has taught me about running Facebook and Instagram Ads

Assuming you read the title of this post, you may be scratching your head right about now.

$100,000? On social media ads?

Well actually, more like $150,000.

Yup. I know. It’s a big number.

But for a good reason.

For years, Facebook and Instagram advertising have been the bread-and-butter of my marketing efforts. And you gotta spend money to make money.

Those ads helped me create an online course worth over $225,397, get over 53,837 leads into my email list and build a successful personal brand.

So yeah, I’ve spent a lot on social media advertising. But I’ve also made a lot and I’ve learned a lot.

And now I’m ready to spill the tea, so YOU can spend smart on social media ads that actually convert.

Pull up a chair. Lean in. These are my best tips on how to run Facebook and Instagram Ads, based on my years of experience and thousands of dollars.

Welcome back to another special case study feature here on the Elise Darma Blog!

This week, we’re chatting to: Brandy Kinnear. Brandy is a digital marketing strategist and growth consultant for natural health doctors.

Brandy watched my free InstaGrowth boss masterclass in March 2018… and it didn’t take her long to hit the ground running and meet some pretty impressive milestones!

By October, Brandy had closed three high-ticket clients — including one that brought $7,000 into her business! 😲

But wait, there’s more.

In January, Brandy had more good news for me. Her total revenue from Instagram: about $20,000. 😲😲😲

Twenty. Thousand. Dollars.

A few short weeks later, Brandy landed another $7,000 client, and she’s now at over $27K+ in revenue generated from Instagram.

Obviously, I was curious about how Brandy took her Instagram from 🤷‍♀️ to ahhhh! in less than a year.

I decided to pick her brain on what Instagram strategies and best practices she found success with, and how her fellow digital marketers can follow suit.

Here’s what Brandy told me 👇

How to use Instagram Direct message to grow your business

How to use Instagram Direct message to grow your business

The chamber of Instagram Direct Message secrets has been opened.

What was once an Internet meme has a whole new significance to business owners. Instagram direct messaging means cha-ching, cha-ching to your business.

We all know I’m a big believer in the power of connection through Instagram Stories — but it’s what comes after the Story goes live that results in some biz-growing goodness (hint: it all goes down in the DMs).

How to maintain a healthy relationship with social media while running your online business

How to maintain a healthy relationship with social media while running your online business

You would think that as the so-called “Instagram Chick,” I'm all over social media – all day, every day.

But the truth is: I'm in my social media apps for less than 1 hour each day.

I realized early on in my online business journey that in order to be a functional human being with a healthy relationship with social media AND run my growing online business, I needed to cut back on my social media usage.

Here’s how you can do the same!

Social Media Marketing World (and what happens when you spend $1,000s on conferences)

Social Media Marketing World (and what happens when you spend $1,000s on conferences)

February and March have been a whirlwind of travel.

But not in that #laptoplifestyle, sitting-on-the-beach kinda way.

It was more like pack-for-warm-weather-but-sit-in-a-conference-hall kinda way.

At the end of February, I flew to San Diego for two business conferences: Traffic & Conversion and Social Media Marketing World.

And since I teach Instagram marketing, I thought a recap of Social Media Marketing World would be especially helpful for my readers :)

Here are the highlights from my experience at Social Media Marketing World, and how the event has the potential to affect the future growth of my business:

How I kickstarted my Instagram to 45,000 followers

How I kickstarted my Instagram to 45,000 followers

In the last year, I made a switch.

I stopped viewing my Instagram account as a personal library of the weird and random visual musings of my brain.

While it was fun to play with the filters and sometimes go without posting for months, in 2016 I realized that I had been neglecting a key component of Instagram all along: it's a powerful visual storytelling platform.

And when the day came that I wanted to share more of my story, Instagram was my platform of choice.

I was already in the app each day for clients. So why not see if I could walk my own talk on my personal profile? Challenge accepted.
